The Hills Run Red

I have to admit that the preview for this movie was waaaay better than the actual movie.. It was extremely predictable (most 'horror' films are anyways).. Actually, if you haven't seen a whole bunch of 'scary' movies, you might be shocked by some of the plot twists, but I have to consider myself a seasoned veteran.. Not to say I was totally disappointed though - some of the death scenes were cool (ok, one of them!) I think I am actually going to partake in the film 'Grotesque'.. Which probably isn't the greatest of things. I don't necessarily like a bunch of really gross stuff happening, I just want to be completely freaked out! Some day.. OH! And 'Stifler' from 'American Pie Presents: Band Camp' is in this one, that is why I really wanted to see it. Just being honest..

Zombieland

I absolutely loved this movie!! Woody Harrelson was extremely hilarious to me! And Jesse Eisenberg played the same type of character he played in 'Adventureland' minus the pot. I loved his rules and how they would pop up randomly when they were being applied. The girls were great.. Oh, and when they take refuge in a house in the 90210 zip code, initials B.M (not what you're thinking..), a great cameo appearance happens. I cannot wait for this one to come out on DVD so that I can buy it and watch it multiple times. My one complaint? I feel it could have been longer! It was just over 80 mins.. Super fun!

Paranormal Activity

I am not sure if it was the hype of this movie or the fact that I just am not a strong believer, but this movie was not scary at all. Ok, maybe one or two parts freaked me out at the time.. But meh! I watched this a few days ago at approximately 1:15am with my siblings.. So maybe it was the fact that I was in my own home or with them.. Not too sure, maybe you have to be in a certain mood or in a certain atmosphere to really enjoy this flick. The couple seemed like a couple, which I am not sure if they really are or if they were just two actors placed in this documentary style movie.. Who knows! We actually watched the original DVD ending (before they remarketed the film to go to theatres).. So then I quickly found the theatrical ending. I think I liked the understated DVD ending better. Left more to the imagination. Although the theatrical ending gave the audience one last shock. MEH!

Pontypool

I was talking to an internet friend about scary movies/zombie movies/etc, and he told me that he was watching a movie called 'Pontypool' and that he figured I might enjoy it because it was a different type of zombie movie. Soo.. After finally giving in to an activity that I never thought I would actually do, I was also viewing this movie. I have to say that it was actually quite great. It was intelligent, different and entertaining. What if zombies weren't created because of some weirdly mutated virus? What if zombies were created by certain words? Do you know how much I would enjoy living in a world where people would have to shut up for awhile? AMAZING! Sadly there wasn't really any gore, or killing or anything of that nature. Just a freaky idea.

The Proposal

I love Ryan Reynolds and I love Sandra Bullock, so I should love this movie right? And I did. Yeah ok, predictable rom-com, but still! It wasn't too bad.. And it held my brothers attention, so that has to be a good sign. There isn't a whole lot for me to say on this one, because I liked it just because. Oh, except for Malin Akerman.. I am so sick of her and her bad acting. How does she keep getting jobs? OH! Right, because she'll do nude scenes. And Betty Davis is a scene stealer! Actually, any hipster/jokey elderly person is a scene stealer in my opinion.

Dance Flick

I went in thinking it would be absolutely horrid.. But if I am going to be honest, it really wasn't that bad. I mean, near the end, you're like 'really? you just had to toss that in there?!' - but that is the usual Wayans Brothers way. A lot of the times they weren't overly mean to the characters they recreated, they were fairly tame in that respect. I thought that the 'Step Up' jokes were pretty funny. Especially Channing Tatum's character.. It was a little over the top, but hilarious! If you like bad acting on purpose, dancing jokes, Wayans Brothers movies and laughter - watch it! If not.. well.. Don't bother!

Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past

My favourite parts in this movie were Michael Douglas' cameos annnd when Lacey Chabert did that scream over her destroyed wedding cake. Other than that it was just Matthew McConaughey playing his usual sauve womanizing character and Jennifer Garner playing her usual sweet girl-next-door character. Cute movie.. Predictable.. But cute. Plus it was nice to see Breckin Meyer get another acting gig that wasn't straight to DVD..

Year One

This was actually my second viewing of the movie. I had seen it when it first came out, but I was dealing with a knee surgery recovering mother and a fractured footed brother, so I needed to keep them glued to the couch! I think I might have laughed a bit more on the second viewing, but then again, any time you watch a movie again, you catch more things! I tell anyone that asks me about this movie that you cannot think of it as a whole, otherwise it is a terrible waste of time aka a horrible movie! BUT! If you think of the movie as 'chapters' aka the way it is shown to you, it really isn't that bad. Great cameos by tons of people! Oh, and I didn't realize this when I first went to see it, but it is by Harold Ramis.. Who is amazing! Ala 'Ghostbusters' fame!!! I still laughed some creepster hysterical laugh near the end. If you're looking for a few laughs, this movie can be used.

Drag Me To Hell

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this film. I mean, it wasn't great, but it had some interesting elements to it. Some of the scenes were well done.. Like the parkade? The elder gypsy lady was creeeeepy! It is a Sam Raimi film, so of course I will have some form of respect for it. He may do some really terrible movies from time to time, but his style always shines through. I mean, 'The Grudge' was bad.. But it still had some parts that weren't TOO bad. Ok, I've gone off track. I thought Alison Lohman and Justin Long were good choices for their roles, oh, and Dileep Rao was pretty great also. The special effects weren't too cheesy or fake looking (ok, maybe the ending was a little fake looking..) This film isn't a necessity to see, but if you're looking for a bit of a time waster, watch it!

Trick r Treat

So, I am updating from almost a month ago for certain movies, like this one! I have been waiting for this movie to be released for about a year.. Seriously! I saw many a-previews for it, but it would never give a date, just 'coming to DVD'.. So it finally came to DVD in October and I was at Rogers to rent it immediately (I had to go with Rogers because I was at the clinic with my brother who had a fractured foot, anyways..) SUPER PUMPED to see this movie. AND! I am satisifed with it. I love that all the stories were all linked together and that instead of one central theme, there were a bunch! 'Sam', the cute little guy on the cover, left quite the effect on me, so he was one of my pumpkins this year! You'll recognize tons of faces in this one.. I am only creeped out by the guy who plays the principal (Dylan Baker).. I can never see him as another character after 'Happiness'.

Observe and Report

I have to say this almost played out like 'Hot Fuzz' to me.. Do not get me wrong, 'Hot Fuzz' is greater than this hands down.. Ok.. Maybe that is a somewhat bad comparison because I loved 'Hot Fuzz' all the way through.. BUT technically they both sort of led to a crazy finish.. With this movie you sort of just get through it.. A laugh or three here and there.. Rogen being all adorably losery.. I really wasn't expecting too much else near the end. It felt like it was just about to end.. Then *BAM* crazy scene in the mall. I seriously sat on the edge of the sofa cackling hysterically and cringing slightly sometimes. Sort of a sleeper of a film with a solidly funny ending. I can handle movies like this from time to time!

Crank 2: High Voltage

This was actually my second viewing of the film. It is so crazy and over the top that I cannot even help myself to not like it. I think it is great. That and I haven't seen a Statham movie I didn't like. Maybe because he is involved, who knows. Maybe because he is usually playing the same character just with a little tweak here and there. Or maybe because he is one of the only people allowed to make these really random movies and not have people dislike him. I just hope that crazy youngsters don't try any of his 'high voltage' tricks...

Wolverine

Is it safe to just say 'meh'? I was really pumped because Ryan Reynolds was in it. Not just to look at.. But because his character in this film was similar to the one in Blade: Trinity. AKA comic relief is an otherwise unfunny movie. (I was going to comic-less.. But.. Well, if no one else gets that than I am obviously extremely lame).. Then he 'dies'. Oh.. And Will.I.Am is in this movie. Thankfully not singing any lame number one hits.. I am also thankful he was so predictable. That is all I am saying. Another thing that was disappointing was how fake everything looked. Especially the blades. Anyways.. CGI and such has come such a far way. If you're going to use them in a movie, maybe make a solid effort? Just my opinion. I didn't dislike this movie nor did I like it. Hence the meh.

The Final Destination 3D

Before I discuss this movie.. I just need to toss this out there.. I am taking a break from 'lyrics'. I currently do not posess any creativity. I would seriously pay money to buy some if I could. I am out of stock. Hopefully that will return someday.

Now on to this hurtin' movie. WHAT THE EFF?! Ok. Tis the time in life for movies to go 3D as it is just so hot right now. Who wouldn't want to see cool death scenes in 3D. Huh.. you know.. We haven't had a final destination movie in awhile.. Why not give us some cool death scenes in 3D. Honestly, I do not think it would be that hard. I was certainly wrong. The acting was horrible (not that I would expect much more from a "horror" film), the plot was well, what all FD movies are, the imagery was awful. Pretty much a barffest. The only cool 3D action was during a pool scene when I had to mentally tell myself to not raise my arm in the air to touch a floating bandaid. True story. To be honest, the 3D previews were better. I am seriously probably one of the biggest fans of the FD franchise, and I was majorly disappointed. Ah well, they got their $13 from me. BUT. I don't recycle my 3D glasses. Win for me!
